Neelaganda Shasthri (Saaru Hasan) has a daughter Vaithegi (Amala) and a son Shankaran (Mater Dhaasarathi). He is very much orthodox. Balu Devar (Sathyaraj) is a great man, an activist of the village who has a son called Shankara Pandi (Raja).

Shankara Pandi falls in lve with Vaithegi but Neelaganda Shasthri knowing this affair arranges his daughter's marriage with someone else, Vaithegi escapes and makes everyone beleive that she' dead. Meanwhile Neelaganda Shasthiri and Shankara Pandi die accidentally. Balu Devar adopts Shankaran and brings him up.

After knowing that Shankara Pandi and her fater have died. Vaithegi comes to take back his brother Shankaran. The village people were surprised and oppose her arrival as they thought that she's dead. What happens thereafter. forms rest of the story.
