Thrillers are few and far between. This time it's a serial murder which forms the basis of a new film titled 'Azhagiya Aabathu'. Playing the lead roles are debutant Vasanth and Lakshmi Rai, with a lot of new faces in the cast too. The film is scripted and directed by debutant A M Bhasker who had apprenticed under cinematographer B Kannan for 16 of his films.

The suspense thriller has been shot at locations in Chennai and Andhra and is scheduled for release this month. The story centeres on greed and avarice. A minister, unscrupulous in his ways, plans to amass more wealth by opening an educational institution which caters to some special courses, charging each student Rs 2 lakh. The minister's greed raises the fury of six of the students, who steal the money and take refuge in a forest.

The minister, thwarted in his bid to accumulate more wealth, sends a dreaded rowdy Jaisurya to the forest to get back his money and kill the students. The five boys and a girl try to escape the killer's net, and soon find each of them being killed by a mysterious person. Their doubt falls on Jaisurya, but when he too is killed the students panic, and start doubting each other. The unraveling of the killer and the motive, forms the rest of the story, says the director.

Apart from Vasanth and Lakshmi Rai, there is Sethuvinayagam, K Vijphy by Indian Bhasker, and editing by R T Annadurai. An August release, the film is produced by K Mahendran for K S M Films.
